SURF
SURF is the higher education and research partnership organisation
for network services and information and communications technology
(ICT).
The Mission of SURF is to exploit and improve a common advanced
ICT infrastructure that will enable higher education institutes
better realise their own ambitions and improve the quality of learning,
teaching and research.
Finally, SURF has set up two limited cooperations: SURFnet for designing
and operating the common network infrastructure and SURFservices
for licenses at reduced cost.
SURF-JISC
The Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC), United Kingdom, supports further and higher education by providing strategic guidance, advice and opportunities to use Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to support teaching, learning, research and administration. JISC is funded by all the UK post-16 and higher education funding councils.
Zwolle Group
The first working conference on copyright ownership in higher education
took place in June 2001, in Zwolle, the Netherlands. The participants
concluded that the meeting should not be a one-off event, but should
have a follow-up. The SURF Foundation was asked to form a Steering
Committee for this purpose. The Committee has undertaken to prioritise
the topics and recommend proposals for solutions and presented them
on the second Zwolle Conference in December 2002.
Since then, the Steering Committee changed its name into 'Zwolle
Group'.
The Zwolle Group has issued an information leaflet
about her activities and in which the Principles are formulated.
