Introduction
Following the first working conference on copyright ownership in
higher education, held in Zwolle, the Netherlands, in June 2001,
the SURF Foundation was asked to form a steering committee to ensure
follow-up to the innovations and enthusiasm that emerged from the
conference.
This committee, now called the Zwolle Group, comprises representatives
of principal stakeholders in the effort: authors, publishers, librarians,
and universities.
The Zwolle Group recognizes that many of these issues are best
addressed through friendly and cooperative copyright practices that
balance interests among diverse stakeholders.
The activities of the Zwolle Group are supported and sponsored
by both SURF
and the JISC (Joint
Information Systems Committee).
Goal
The Zwolle Group is working with academic authors, institutions,
publishers and libraries in order to develop and promote balanced
approaches to the management of rights, thereby establishing optimal
access to scholarly information.
Objectives
The main objectives of the Zwolle Group are to disseminate information
in order to assist stakeholders in the management of copyright,
to increase awareness and influence behaviour among all stakeholders
and to promote the Zwolle Principles as an effective means of balancing
stakeholder interests.
Leaflet
The Zwolle Group has issued an information leaflet
about her activities and the Principles.
Members
Participants in the conference, and members of the Zwolle Group,
